Scottish Terrier toilet training success story

CASE 1. Ebony.
"She will wait for me to return back before she sleeps," the owner said. "She would greet me and I would say "go to sleep." When I come out of the bathroom, she is sound asleep.

CHEWING OWN TOYS ONLY.
As the 2 kids 5 and 7 years old are playing next to her, she would observe them playing their own toys. She would pick their toys but never chew them. She would chew her own toys. One time, the kids screamed when she touched their toys and she had not searched their toys in the toy box since.

PAPER TRAINED
Bought a bigger play pen (meant for large breeds). About 6 feet long by 3 feet wide. Put one sheet of newspaper on one side. Eating, drinking and sleeping area on 66% of the floor area. She was encouraged and praised to go to the newspaper. She was allowed only one hour out of the playpen. Signs of sniffing, circling, put back onto the newspaper and encouraged to pee there. In less than 14 days, she was paper trained.

PROBLEM
Accidents. This is because there was no door in the playpen for her to go to the toilet. Would consider getting one later when moving house.

DRINKING
Dual nozzle water bottle very good. She can drink outside her play pen.

SHREDDING NEWSPAPER
Only does it when the soiled papers are not changed. She barked to change newspapers.

Continual supervision and training for the first 7 days is the key to success. Very happy with her superior intelligence compared to previous Westie. Hard to photograph her as she never stayed still.
